Lauren Mahakian

Medical Social Worker

Originally from the Outer Sunset neighborhood of San Francisco, Lauren brings both a science-minded curiosity and a deeply compassionate heart to her work as a Medical Social Worker. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies and Biology from Sacramento State, and later earned her Master of Social Work (MSW) from the University of Southern California—training that has allowed her to support individuals and families across a variety of clinical settings since 2015.

Lauren serves as a key part of the interdisciplinary care team at Amari Home Health and Hospice, offering emotional support, resource navigation, and a calm, empathetic presence during what is often one of the most difficult times in a family's life. She is committed to meeting each patient and their loved ones mentally, emotionally, and practically. Lauren supports families by helping them manage legal and financial concerns, access community resources, and cope with the emotional challenges of end-of-life care. She brings honesty, empathy, and respect to every situation.

Lauren wants families to know that while hospice can feel heavy—often associated with grief, pain, and stress—it can also be a deeply meaningful experience. “There’s something profoundly human about being part of a loved one’s transition,” she says. “Just like birth, death is a universal passage, and our goal in hospice is to walk that path with as much comfort, dignity, and support as possible.”

Outside of work, Lauren tends to a thriving garden of California native plants, grows her own produce and herbs, and loves to cook meals straight from her backyard. She’s also an avid sports fan (go Giants and Niners!), enjoys making pottery, and shares her home with three cats and two bunnies. Her commitment to self-care includes weightlifting, mindful eating, hiking, and staying spiritually grounded in nature.
